Our story
Family and Florentine tradition
Il Bargello was born from the vision of a restaurateur, Rodolfo Turricchia, born in 1946. After traveling to Australia and opening “Rudi’s Bistrò” there, he moved to Florence, where he took over the historic Florentine osteria Il Bargello, welcoming both locals and visitors through its doors.
With the birth of his son Marco, the first generation of restaurateurs began. As a child—known as the “shop boy”—Marco grew up among the restaurant tables, learning the craft from his parents from an early age.
The “shop boy” later marries, and from that union come two sons, Alessandro and Claudio, who join the family business in their early twenties, following in their grandfather’s footsteps. Today, Alessandro reflects his grandfather’s analytical mindset, managing the commercial side and maintaining long-standing relationships, while Claudio carries forward a more lively, food-loving spirit—holding court in the dining room and sharing stories with guests.
Three generations on, Il Bargello remains a place of gathering for the city of Florence, centered around what we do best: cooking.
The Great Bargello Family
At Il Bargello, there’s a tradition: eating all together, gathering around the same table, drinking wine from the flask, and setting aside roles for a moment. Just like at home, chefs, hosts, and waitstaff come together to talk about what’s new, discuss food and everyday topics, exchange ideas, and share confidences.
Our Mission
