Il Bargello was born in 1948, when a restaurant destined to become a gathering place for Florentines opened its doors in Piazza della Signoria, a place that has carried the city’s story in its very name ever since.
In the 1970s the Turricchia family took up the legacy of Il Bargello, preserving its rooms and authentic spirit while giving it fresh momentum. Since then, generation after generation, the same family has kept the tradition of the Florentine table alive.
Today Il Bargello remains what it has always been: a Tuscan home where people sit together, share, and rediscover the true flavors of Florence.
Cooked over the only open-view charcoal grill in Piazza della Signoria, the Florentine steak is Il Bargello’s signature dish. Selected meats, cut in keeping with tradition, and the Ritual of the Bell that celebrates the most impressive steaks.
Fresh pasta made every day in our own workshops, with selected semolina and a high proportion of egg yolks. From spaghetti alla carrettiera to the traditional Florentine shapes, worked by hand as they once were.

Every morning, from 8:00 to 11:00, Il Bargello opens the day in the heart of Florence, overlooking Palazzo Vecchio.

In the heart of Florence, in Piazza della Signoria, Il Bargello’s kitchen is a genuine tribute to Tuscan tradition. At its centre is the live charcoal grill, the only open-view grill on the square, where the Florentine steak is born and selected meats take on their flavour.
Alongside the grill, time and patience: the slow-cooked dishes of the old Tuscan home, sauces and mains that take hours, and fresh pasta made every day in our own workshops. Our pastry, too, is homemade, closing each meal with the same care with which we begin it. Completing the table, a cellar of fine wines, from local Tuscan labels to Italy’s great appellations.
But Il Bargello is, above all, a place of conviviality: the large shared tables where people gather, share and celebrate.
